Detroit, MI at a Glance
Known alternately as Motor City or Motown, Detroit has developed a reputation
during it's history as a haven for automobiles and music. Home to many domestic
car companies, Detroit's economy was built on the American desire for personal
transportation, a desire that the Motor City was only too happy to deliver on.
The city's automotive industry makes it the ideal place for the North
American International Auto Show, an annual event held in January. Detroit
was also the site of a modern musical renaissance in the 1960s when Hitsville
USA produced artists such as Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and others. The musical
legacy continues with artists such as Eminem and the White Stripes hailing from
the area. Detroit is linked to Windsor,
Ontario, Canada
by the Ambassador
Bridge, making Detroit an important port of trade with Canada. Belle
Isle Park is a noted attraction in Detroit, offering visitors a zoo, conservatory,
aquarium and more.
